Morning. We're a few days away from May, the trees are starting to leaf out, and the weekend forecast looks like a reason to go somewhere.

This week we've got an Owen Sound brewery in an old train station, a pie shop in
Williamsford with a serious lemon buttermilk situation, and a stack of events worth your time Let's get into it.

Do you have an event coming up that our readers should know about? Submit your local events HERE to be featured in upcoming editions.

Top 3 this week

Here are our 3 favourite events happening this week

Kimber Valley Farms Spring Farmers & Makers Market — Saturday, May 2 | 11 AM-4 PM | 236087 Beaver Valley Road, Kimberley

We teased this one a couple weeks back in our Hidden Gem, so consider this the nudge. The 92-acre Icelandic sheep farm in the Beaver Valley is opening its doors for a proper spring market. Local makers, wool goods straight off the flock, and the kind of farmstead day that makes a Saturday feel like a small adventure. Hullabaloo the ewe says hi.

Hike for Saugeen Hospice — Sunday, May 3 | 1-3 PM | Durham, Hanover, Paisley, Walkerton & Mildmay - (Mildmay is 11 AM-1 PM)

One hike, five locations, same afternoon. Pick the one closest to you, lace up, and walk it for a great cause. Saugeen Hospice runs family-care programs across Bruce and Grey, and every dollar raised stays in the region. Bring the kids. Bring the dog. Show up.

Hotel California: The Original Eagles Tribute — Friday, May 1 | 7:30-9:30 PM | Roxy Theatre, Owen Sound

Take it easy. Or don't. Either way, the Roxy is hosting one of the best Eagles tribute acts going, and they don't roll through this far north often. Hotel California, Take It Easy, Desperado, the whole catalogue. Grab tickets ahead, this one will move.

Sponsored Spotlight

This weeks spot is open, want it?

The Buzz lands in the inboxes of 5,500+ Grey-Bruce locals every Tuesday morning. They open it. They read it. They reply.

Sponsored spots go to local businesses we'd send a friend to. Restaurants, shops, events, service companies. Real spots, told the way we tell every other story in the Buzz.

If that's you, fill out the form and we'll be in touch.

We're picky about who we let in. But we're not hard to talk to.

Community Calendar

Our Community Calendar covers Grey & Bruce Counties. It’s a large area, so if we missed an event we are sorry, we will do better next time!

Our Community Calendar was getting a bit too enthusiastic. Turns out stuffing a week’s worth of local fun into one email makes for a very long scroll.

So we’ve given it its own space! Click the button below to check out the full lineup of events this week.

Foodie Flash

Mudtown Station - Owen Sound

There's a brewery in Owen Sound that lives inside an old CPR train station. The food is made in house. The beer is brewed on site. And as far as breweries in Owen Sound go, this is the first one in town since 1913.

That's not a stretch. There hasn't been one for over a century.

Mudtown Station opened in 2018. It's family-owned. They cook everything from scratch, lean on local ingredients, and pour pints they brewed a few feet from your table. The building still has all its original station bones. Big windows, high ceilings, the kind of place that feels right whether you're popping in for lunch or settling in for a slow evening.

The name is a nod to the old neighbourhood nickname for the muddy hill the station was built on a hundred years back.

It's a cold one this week, which makes it a perfect excuse to pull up a stool inside, grab a flight, and work through whatever's on the kitchen menu.

1198 1st Ave E, Owen Sound. Open Wednesday through Sunday. Closed Monday and Tuesday.

Hidden Gem of the week

Williamsford Pie Company - Williamsford

There's an old building on Highway 6 in Williamsford that doesn't sell hardware anymore. It sells pie.

The Williamsford Pie Company has been baking out of this spot since 2007. The current owners, Kim and Sam, kept the operation small, scratch-made, and dialled in. Everything is baked in the shop. No additives, no preservatives, no shortcuts.

The signature is the Lemon Buttermilk Pie. It is the reason a lot of people drive there in the first place. The rest of the case is no slouch either. Butter tarts, fruit pies, savoury options if you need lunch on the way through.

A few small things worth knowing. They're open seven days a week. Summer hours start May 1, which means they're open until 8pm instead of 6pm. If you want a custom order or something for a crowd, give them a week's notice.

About 20 minutes south of Owen Sound. Bring a cooler. You will not want to leave with one pie.

316079 Hwy 6, Williamsford.
