Morning. Spring is finally sticking and the week is packed. We've got three events worth your time, a cheese shop in Thornbury, a Mildmay pub that saw more of me in my twenties than my own couch did, and a small favour to ask. Let's get into it.
Do you have an event coming up that our readers should know about? Submit your local events HERE to be featured in upcoming editions.
Top 3 this week
Here are our 3 favourite events happening this week

35th Annual Firefighters Garage Sale — Saturday, April 25 | 8 AM-12:30 PM | Desboro Arena, 136205 Grey Road 40, Desboro
Thirty-five years strong. Show up early, bring cash, and bring a non-perishable food item for the Chatsworth Food Bank while you're at it. Proceeds go toward new firefighting gear and local charity projects, so every bargain you score is doing double duty.
Paint & Sip Night at Georgian Hills — Thursday, April 23 | 5:30-8:30 PM | Georgian Hills Vineyards, The Blue Mountains
Wine, paintbrushes, and zero pressure to make a masterpiece. Call a friend, get out of the house, and go home with something you
actually made (and a little buzz to go with it).
Unnecessary Farce (Hanover Community Players) — April 24-26 | Hanover Civic Theatre, Hanover
Mistaken identities, slamming doors, and the glorious chaos only community theatre can pull off. Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM,
Sunday matinee at 2 PM.

Umm.. Us

Here's something a little different this week.
After almost every Buzz send, we get an email that goes something like: "Heading to Thornbury Saturday, any good spots to walk around?" or "Driving to Owen Sound next weekend, what should we check out?" We've been answering these one at a time for months.
So we figured, why not just build the thing?
The idea is free, self-guided walking tours of towns across Grey and Bruce. The cafe you'd miss if you blinked, the bookstore that's been there forever, the bench with the best view of the bay. The spots we'd actually send a friend to, not the tourist-brochure version.
We don't even have a name for it yet. But if this sounds like something you'd use, click the button, check out the our page, and drop your email. If enough of you want it, we'll build it. If not, no harm done.

Community Calendar
Our Community Calendar covers Grey & Bruce Counties. It’s a large area, so if we missed an event we are sorry, we will do better next time!

Our Community Calendar was getting a bit too enthusiastic. Turns out stuffing a week’s worth of local fun into one email makes for a very long scroll.
So we’ve given it its own space! Click the button below to check out the full lineup of events this week.

Harleys Pub and Perk - Mildmay

There's a pub in Mildmay that's been pouring beer since 1872. The same family's been running it since 1919.
Harley's has been owned by Nikk Wise (Schmalz) since 2004. It's named after her Uncle Harley, who used to tend bar alongside her Grandpa Chucks. Their photos still hang on the walls. The building opened as the Commercial Hotel and has cycled through names like the Schmalz Country Inn and the Cornerstone Inn, but it's been in the Schmalz family the whole time.
The food leans more homemade than most pubs bother with. Nikk makes the jams, dressings, and the best soups from scratch. The butter tarts come in pecan, coconut, or raisin and have their own fan base. The wings are the reliable crowd pleaser.
Next door is the Perk, the coffee side, which opens at 5am for the morning crew. Fresh bowls and salads if you want something lighter than wings.
It’s the kind of place small towns are built around.
Open daily. The Perk opens at 5am Monday through Saturday. The bar runs late Thursday through Saturday.
Hidden Gem of the week
The Cheese Gallery — Thornbury

There's a cheese shop in an 1867 brick building on Thornbury's main street. It's got a tasting bar and about a hundred different cheeses on
rotation.
The Cheese Gallery opened in 2010. Nicole and Cindy took it over last year, and the shop is still considered one of the best cheese cases outside Toronto. Gruyere from Switzerland. Parmesan from Italy. Gouda from Holland. And a deep bench of Canadian makers alongside them.
The rest of the shop is built for the same kind of attention. A coffee bar. Fresh bread from Crust & Crackle delivered every Thursday. Wood-fired
pizzas from Bruce Wine Bar to bake at home. A curated selection of gourmet goods, wine, and options for gluten-free and vegan customers.
The Gallery Bar is where it gets fun. Grilled cheese, soup, wine, and cheese plates, served inside the shop. It's also where they run their tastings.
They're also in a grilled cheese competition right now, and we're a little salty nobody told us about it sooner. It ends this week. Get over
there if you want to weigh in.
If you're hosting anything this spring, the charcuterie boards are a must have, and the fondue kit for two comes with everything you need. Just give them a day's notice.
11 Bruce Street South, Thornbury. Open Sunday to Wednesday 10 to 5, Thursday to Saturday 10 to 6.
