The travelling poutine festival parks in Victoria Park for four whole days. A lineup of food trucks doing every take on fries, curds, and gravy, from the classic to the ones that shouldn't work but do. Go hungry, pace yourself, and maybe don't plan anything after.

Marine Heritage Festival — Friday-Sunday, July 24-26 | Southampton

Southampton's big weekend. A tall ship in the harbour running deck tours and sailings, cardboard boat races on the beach, boat tours out to the Chantry Island lighthouse, a pancake breakfast, a beer garden, and a Saturday night beach party with The Sofa Kings. Pick a day, wander down, follow the crowds.

Sauble Beach Endless Summer Concert — Wednesday, July 22 | 5:15-9pm | Sauble Beach Town Square

Free live music a few steps from the sand, and it's tomorrow night. Josh Ritchie and The Sling Sisters open, then Brass Transit, the Chicago tribute act, closes it out. Bring a lawn chair, stay for the sunset. That's the whole assignment.

The market is the storefront of Greenock Food Collective, on Concession Road 14 between Walkerton and Mildmay, started by two Bruce County guys who grew up on family beef farms. Custom butchery, house-made sausage, and local beef, pork, poultry, and lamb. Plus produce, pantry staples, and prepared meals to grab on your way through.

It's peak grilling season, and this is where the good stuff comes from. And if you time it right, the Saturday smash burgers are going on.

There's a diner on Main Street in Lion's Head where the owner's favourites are marked right on the menu, and she's been feeding the peninsula for ten years.

It's Rachel's Bakery & Cafe. The Rachel is Rachel Bridge. Part 50s diner, part bakery counter, part pizza kitchen, and all of it humming once cottage season hits.

Start with the perch. Herb panko crusted, a little Rachel's Favourite mark beside it, and always in the argument for best perch dinner on the peninsula. Then the Mini Yorkies: five little Yorkshire puddings loaded with mashed potatoes, in-house roast beef, and gravy. And don't leave without a butter tart. Baked fresh daily, and the pastry has its own fan club.

Peninsula summer is short. Eat accordingly.

That gelato croissant is still in Paisley

If you read about it last week and haven't stopped thinking about it, this is your sign. Bonfire Gelato & Espresso is churning small-batch gelato in house all summer, flavours rotating through the week, plus the croissant stuffed with gelato that broke a few brains last Tuesday. Open Tuesday through Sunday. Paisley's worth the drive on a hot week like this one.

Antique people, your window is coming

The Thornbury Summer Antique & Vintage Show hits the Beaver Valley Community Centre August 8 and 9, and the dealers are loading their vans as we speak. Somewhere in those vans is your future favourite end table. Saturday 10 to 5, Sunday 10 to 4. The serious hunters show up Saturday morning. Be one of them.

Formosa is a valley village of a few hundred people that you've probably only ever driven through. Except it's home to a brewery that's been there since 1870. And the taps are running again.

German settlers picked the spot for the artesian spring water underneath it. This is the brewery that gave us Formosa Springs Draft, and it's where Red Baron gets brewed today. It went quiet for a stretch. Now there's a little taproom and retail store pouring on site again.

But let's be honest about why people make the drive. It's a cold Red Baron poured right over the springs it's brewed from. Samples at the counter, staff who love telling the story, cases to carry home. They even run Wednesday night socials all summer.

One note for planning: they're closed Mondays.
