Yeah, we know. It's Wednesday. The flu ripped through the team this week and knocked us off schedule. We're a day late but fully loaded.
It's Easter weekend. The kids are off school, the egg hunts are lined up, and the Owen Sound Attack are in the OHL playoffs. Not a bad stretch.
This week we've got a disco-themed taproom in Meaford you need to know about, a blacksmith shop between Neustadt and Mildmay that's hiding an incredible property, and a full calendar to keep you busy through the long weekend.
Let's get into it.

Everest Trees

If you've driven Highway 21 near Port Elgin, you've probably seen it. If you haven't stopped in yet, this is your spring.
Everest Trees has been growing trees, shrubs, and plants right here in Grey-Bruce for 35 years. Over 350 acres in production at their Hepworth
nursery. Everything's locally grown and built to survive our winters. Not shipped in from who-knows-where.
Their Port Elgin garden centre opens for the season soon with tropicals, hanging baskets, annuals, perennials, bulk mulch, and yes, even saunas.
Staff actually know their stuff, which is a nice change.
Two locations. Hepworth nursery on Bruce Rd 8. Retail garden centre at 5662 Highway 21 in Port Elgin.

Community Calendar
Our Community Calendar covers Grey & Bruce Counties. It’s a large area, so if we missed an event we are sorry, we will do better next time!

Our Community Calendar was getting a bit too enthusiastic. Turns out stuffing a week’s worth of local fun into one email makes for a very long scroll.
So we’ve given it its own space! Click the button below to check out the full lineup of events this week.

Brasserie Lovebird - Meaford

There's a disco-themed taproom in downtown Meaford serving $2 oysters and house-brewed beer. That sentence alone should be enough.
Brasserie Lovebird started as Lovebird Snack Club in Thornbury. Owners Alex and Emily Chramow relocated to Meaford in 2025, partnered with an unbelievable chef, and built something that has no business being this good in a small town.
The Brasserie serves up East Coast-inspired BBQ. Smoked trout croquettes called "Toe Rags." Brisket platter with all the fixings. Oysters
natural. The menu rotates, and it's always interesting.
Alex brews every beer on-site. All of them clock in under 5%. One is literally called Birdweiser. The natural wine list is well-curated, the cocktails are creative (Artichoke Spritz, anyone?), and the vibe is cozy without trying too hard.
Happy hour Wednesday to Friday, 4 to 5:30pm. Two-dollar oysters. Ten-dollar martinis. Seven-dollar beers. That's not a typo.
4.8 stars on OpenTable. Across the street from Meaford Hall, steps from the water.
Open Wednesday to Friday 4 to 9pm, Saturday and Sunday noon to 9pm.
Hidden Gem of the week
Forty Hills Forge - Mildmay

There's a blacksmith shop on Bruce Road 6 between Neustadt and Mildmay. And it's way cooler than you think.
Brian Clowes has been working metal since 1996. He trained with smiths in Alberta, then crossed the ocean for two years of traditional joinery
training in the UK. In 2018, he set up Forty Hills Forge on a property he and his wife Sharilyn have been building into something special since
2013.
The forge turns out one-of-a-kind furniture, stair railings, gates, chandeliers, garden sculptures. Custom architectural ironwork, all done by hand. Sharilyn works alongside him making hand-built and wheel-thrown ceramics. Together they sell functional art you'll actually use every day.
But here's the part that surprised us. The property itself is worth the visit. They've turned a former horse paddock into a massive edible garden
with a grape arbour, a "tunnel of deliciousness" (their words), and an orchard growing frost peaches, Asian pears, kiwi, hazelnuts, and
chestnuts. There's a stone bread oven. Animals. A greenhouse. They grow the majority of the food they eat.
You can book a blacksmithing workshop (private classes available), browse the showroom (by appointment), or arrange a garden tour through Rural Gardens Grey Bruce. They're also part of the Autumn Leaves Studio Tour every fall.
