Morning. This is the big one. Canada Day lands Wednesday, the long weekend is right on its heels, and Grey Bruce is about to celebrate from one end of the region to the other.

Ayton-Normanby Homecoming — Friday-Sunday, July 3-5 | Ayton
The whole village is coming home. Three days of small-town gold: a memorial parade and a drone show Friday night, then Saturday loads up with a car, truck and tractor show, the Farmers Olympics, a kids tractor pull, and a dance to close it out. Sunday winds down with a smoke-off, a corn hole tournament, a homemade pie contest, and yes, a beard and mullet competition. This is the good stuff.
Canada Day, all across Grey Bruce — Wednesday, July 1 | Region-wide
Pick your town and show up. Owen Sound throws a free all-day party at Kelso Beach with pony rides, a dog show, food trucks, and fireworks at 10pm. Kincardine lights up the sky from the North Pier at dusk, best seen from MacPherson Park with a lawn chair. Southampton gathers at the Big Flag for fireworks over the water. Wherever you are this Wednesday, there's a celebration close by.
Kincardine Scottish Festival & Highland Games — Friday-Sunday, July 3-5 | Victoria Park, Kincardine
The kilts, the pipes, the caber toss, and a seriously stacked concert lineup. Saturday fills the park with pipe bands and heavy events, then the main stage brings out Canadian rock legends 54•40, with the Glengarry Bhoys and a Hotel California Eagles tribute across the weekend. Kids 12 and under get in free. Heads up, Friday and Saturday nights are 19+.

Perogie Palace — Meaford
There's a little spot in Meaford where the perogies are rolled, pinched, and cooked by hand, and the portions land like a dare.
This is comfort food done right. Classic potato and cheddar, sure, but also cheeseburger, jalapeño, and sweet potato, all made in house. Cabbage rolls and borscht too, the kind of cooking that tastes like somebody's grandmother is in the back making sure you eat enough.
They'll cook them up hot to eat in, or you can grab a few dozen frozen to haul up to the cottage and be the hero of the long weekend.
Hidden Gem of the week
Essentially Lavender — Teeswater
Just northwest of Teeswater, at the quiet south end of Bruce County, there's a farm that turns purple this time of year.
Essentially Lavender is a family operation, and right now is the moment. The bloom runs from late June into early August, so the fields are about as photogenic as they get. Walk the rows, wander the labyrinth, and poke through the boutique stocked with lavender everything, from skincare to sachets.
It's the kind of slow, pretty afternoon that makes a long weekend feel like an actual break. Bring a hat, bring a camera, bring someone you like.
One note for planning: they're open weekends, so aim for Friday through Sunday.
