Top 3 this week

Here are our 3 favourite events happening this week

Owen Sound Ribfest — Sept 12-14, Bayshore Community Centre

Owen Sound’s skyline is about to be 90% hickory smoke and 10% ecstatic meat-sweats. The 13th annual Ribfest is trucking in North America’s top “Pitmasters,” live bands, a kid zone, and those Jurassic-sized beef “Dino” ribs. Five bucks gets you through the gate; pack an appetite and a reusable water bottle (they’ve axed single-use plastics, bless ’em)

AGORA: Path of Light — nightly through Oct 26, Blue Mountain Village

Think of it as a glow-in-the-dark nature walk meets immersive art show. Hop the gondola after dusk, then wander a 3 km forest loop where interactive light installations riff on the five elements. Open 8–10 pm Sun-Thurs and 8–11 pm Fri-Sat, so you’ve got plenty of post-patio hours to get your inner Firefly on.

Sun, Sand & Classy Cars — Tues Sept 9, 5 pm-sunset, Sauble Beach

Sunset Cruisers roll their chrome down Lakeshore & Main every Tuesday, transforming Sauble’s strip into a living Hot Wheels set. Expect Corvette corral, live tunes on select nights, and a 50/50 that fuels Crime Stoppers, not your speeding habit. Park the minivan, geek out over carburetors, repeat next week.

Sponsored Spotlight

Happy Valley Christmas Lights

Hanging Christmas lights sounds fun… until you’re on a ladder in -10° untangling wires from 2016.

That’s where Happy Valley Christmas Lights comes in:

  • They bring the lights (no shopping, no mess).

  • They install them safely on your home.

  • They take them down after the holidays.

  • They store them for you until next year.

All you do? Sip some hot chocolate and enjoy the glow.

Community Calendar

Our Community Calendar covers Grey & Bruce Counties. It’s a large area, so if we missed an event we are sorry, we will do better next time!

Our Community Calendar was getting a bit too enthusiastic. Turns out stuffing a week’s worth of local fun into one email makes for a very long scroll.

So we’ve given it its own space! Click the button below to check out the full lineup of events this week.

Foodie Flash

Parkwood by Heartwood

Our go-to carb cave on 2nd Ave. has the vibe of a lumber-camp loft (exposed brick, string lights, the whole “stay-for-one-beer, end-up-here-all-night” energy).

Headlining the menu this month: the Black-Garlic Belly Buster, a slow-fermented crust slathered in sweet-funk black-garlic sugo, topped with pickled scapes, melty mozz, chili-braised pork belly and a hailstorm of pork cracklin’. Translation: tastebud fireworks you’ll crave at 3 a.m.

Catch it before October rolls in, then brag you tasted September’s MVP slice while stocks (and arteries) lasted.

Hidden Gem of the week

Holstein General Store

Plot a ten-minute detour off Hwy 6 and you’ll land in Holstein (population: “blink and you missed it”), where the General Store has been stocking everything but tractor parts since 1890.

Inside the creaky-floored brick landmark you’ll find the village post office, an LCBO/Beer Store window, and aisles crammed with 50-plus local makers’ goodies, maple syrup, Funky Ferments kimchi, Spanky’s sausages, even bait if you’re headed to the dam.

Open 90 hours a week, 365 days a year, it’s where locals grab lotto tickets, a scoop of Kawartha ice cream, fresh produce, and the day’s gossip in one swoop.

Worth the back-road stop just to say you shopped the store that’s been “everything to everyone” for 132 years.
